VacayStore members recently had the opportunity to visit the charming town of Tarpon Springs, known for its Greek heritage and sponge diving industry. The group was excited to explore the historic Sponge Docks area, lined with shops offering an array of sponges and authentic Greek souvenirs. Walking along the docks, they soaked in the lively atmosphere filled with bustling seafood restaurants serving delicious Mediterranean dishes.
The members took a leisurely boat tour to learn about the history of sponge diving in Tarpon Springs and even witnessed a traditional sponge diving demonstration firsthand. They were amazed by the skilled divers plunging into the clear waters to harvest natural sponges – an age-old tradition passed down through generations.
After indulging in some delectable baklava from a local bakery, they strolled through picturesque streets adorned with whitewashed buildings and vibrant bougainvillea flowers, and the day ended with a scenic sunset cruise along the Gulf Coast, providing breathtaking views of Florida’s stunning shoreline.
Their visit to Tarpon Springs was a delightful blend of cultural experience and natural beauty that left them feeling enriched and inspired by this hidden gem on Florida’s West Coast.
A must-stop for all members with a sweet tooth is Hellos. This Greek bakery supplies most of Tampa and Saint Petersburg with the finest of all Greek delicacies. The very best pastries ever.
We can never get enough things to see and do in our lives, but in that area of Florida, this is a quint town; that time has not changed it very much. Enjoy your fine Greek food and enjoy the stroll on the pier.
