Makena Beach State Park

This state park provides 3 separate entrances although you will have to go through 'Big Beach', one of the 2 separate beaches which compose Makena Beach, to get to 'Little Beach'.

Makena Beach is the most popular beach of Maui, being the most photographed and commonly used beach for weddings!

While visiting this beach, please take caution to all posted signs. Makena Beach's 'Big Beach' is well known for rough waves. If you are not comfortable swimming here you can continue on to 'Little Beach' for a calmer swim.

If you are looking to experience something different, 'Little Beach' is one of the only nude beaches on the island of Maui! You may also try to catch local fire dancers at night during a full moon.

The recommended time to swim is from the hours of 8am and 4pm when there are lifeguards on duty. Morning to mid-morning is most suitable to calmer and clear waters, although the water of Maui's beaches are always very clear. Tide changes and rougher waves can change the visibility of the water from time to time.

Feel free to pack a lunch, picnic areas are provided but please pick up after yourselves. There are no water fountains but there are concession stand with items for sale. Public bathrooms and showers are available in the park as well near the entrances of the park. Snorkeling and fishing are both permitted at this state park.
